The Nautilus E614 Elliptical Training Machine is a strong effort in the crowded field of ellipticals under $1000, being received better than most at the same price range. Whilst it is available in a wide range of online stores, for the most part it had not been reviewed. This is common for less well known makes. Luckily, there was a range of reviews on Amazon which we have been able to dive into. 79% of customers give this a 4 or 5 star rating, with only 10% giving it a 1 star review. We have read the specs, info and reviews and our own review tells you everything you need to know before deciding whether to buy. Read on!
Smooth and Quiet Movement
The cornerstone of any effective elliptical workout is the movement. Does it feel right? Does the machine ‘cycle’ smoothly and comfortable? The votes are in for the Nautilus E614 and people are generally very happy with the action here. It gives a smooth and also a quiet workout. It also gives a tough and challenging workout! If you are looking to be challenged, to push yourself to the limit and to harvest real results in your personal health and fitness then look no further. There are 20 different levels of eddy current resistance, and they appear to be more resistant than comparable elliptical machines (even those in a gym). One Amazon reviewer reported that the 7th resistance level (where 1 is easy, and 20 is hard) was comparable to the 12th resistance level at the elliptical machine he often uses in his gym.
There are also 6 different positions for manual ramp adjustment, so there is a big range of different workout levels available to you, with the ability to target different leg muscles, alternate between targeting muscle growth, or work on cardio endurance. All these are well catered for with the E614.
Dual Track LCD Console
The Nautilus E614 also comes with a wide range of workout routines, or of course you can just jump on and start running with the Quickstart option. There are different routines designed for different goals, with a number designed around your heart rate, and keeping it at the right level for a healthy and rewarding fitness session. There are 2 user profiles available so you and one other can keep track of all your progress and your goals. For those of you who like to take your data and results out of the gym to study and plan with, the E614 can send your fitness data to its own nautilusconnect.com or the very popular myfitnesspal.com so you can check in when planning future sessions, or even compare results with friends (or compare with you 6 months previously! We’re sure you’ll see a positive difference).
The E614 is reasonably heavy – which is of course a good thing, and leads to a more stable and solid-feeling workout experience. This is why it claims to have a very generous 300lbs weight capacity. It’s important that you decide where you wish to place it, and assemble it in that very room, as you won’t wish to move it far afterwards. Although it does come with transport wheels so you can relocate it – but you won’t want to carry it upstairs once it’s put together!
Most people have no problem putting it together in a few hours. The instructions are easy to follow, and one Amazon customer even let his teenage daughter assemble the elliptical, and she did it without any trouble at all. He reported that “you don’t need a He-Man or an engineer to assemble it.” Can’t really say any better than that, can you? All the necessary tools for assembly are provided in the box so you won’t need to invest in a toolkit if you purchase this elliptical.
What About the Cons?
As ever, not every customer has a perfect experience. There are a handful of critical reviews of the E614 from the Amazon customer reviews. 10% of reviews on Amazon gave this elliptical 1 star. Having read through them all, the positive is that there is no one thing that seems to be going wrong for all customers, so we can assume there is nothing systematically wrong with the E614. There are a few issues with people requesting replacement parts, or things breaking within the first few weeks of use – problems that were then made worse my slow customer service. To their credit, Nautilus have responded to most of these comments on Amazon to apologise and offering contact to resolve the problems. One reviewer recommends taking the 3 year extended warranty if you are concerned about these issues.
- 10 years frame
- 2 years mechanical
- 1 year electrical
- 90 days labor
Our Final Verdict?
The Nautilus E614 attempts a lot for the price range, and it mostly succeeds. For the majority of customers, they have found this a reasonable priced, well-made machine with smooth motion and a range of challenging workout options. Improved further by dual screen LCD and data export to fitness websites, this has worked for many as part of their health and fitness lifestyle. A handful of critical customer reviews raise some issues with durability and customer response.
We think this is a good buy, but not our top choice. Fitness Equipments Lab recommend the Schwinn 430 for best elliptical under $1000.
